FEATURED SERVICES
I have several key areas of specialization as well as a wealth of knowledge in broader areas.
Chronic Pain Management
Everyone has had some sort of pain experience. When you injure yourself, you may experience pain that goes away with or without treatment. This is acute pain. However, when the pain persists even after treatment, you may have chronic pain. The National Institute of Health (NIH) estimates that 1 in 10 Americans suffer from chronic pain. Chronic pain costs Americans much more than any other chronic disease because unlike acute pain (typically successfully treated by conventional medicine), chronic pain is quite different; it is like an alarm system in a house or car going awry and fixing it would require a trained specialist. I have over 15 years of specialized training at an Anesthesiology-based pain management program.
While every person is different a typical treatment plan might consist of, an “introductory package for chronic pain” which would include a detailed pain assessment plus two psycho-educational support groups, established and reviewed every 4 sessions.
The goals for treatment include: decreased pain intensity, decreased pain interference, mind and body reconditioning, and improved daily functioning.
Anxiety Disorders and Phobias
The Harvard Medical School Comorbidity Survey reported that anxiety disorders are the most prevalent mental health issues disabling many Americans. They include panic attacks, social anxiety, compulsive -obsessive disorders, phobias, and generalized anxiety disorders (feeling excessive unrealistic worry and tension with little or no reason) . Post-traumatic Stress Disorders or PTSD have been included as anxiety disorders.
I use Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and behavioral therapies which are quite effective in treating these problems.
Hypnosis / Hypnotherapy
Hypnosis for pain and nausea for cancer and other chronic medical illnesses; and for relaxation training and treatment of various disorders such as smoking cessation.
